Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors

The Capital and Engineering Managerensures leadership for projects and technical support for site manufacturing operations to achieve overall results on key metrics including safety, quality, plant reliability and cost performance.

What you'll do

  • Handles all mechanical and electrical engineering functions of the plant; both proactive and reactive
  • Capital strategy and management of capital funds.
  • Capital project execution and managing capital projects as needed.
  • Technical support for manufacturing operations.
  • Long-range infrastructure and facilities planning.
  • Handles the key elements of annual budgeting and cost change processes
  • Aligning plant engineering resources and the capital budget with corporate and plant priorities
  • Improving the effectiveness and impact of engineering resources
  • Increasing plant technical capabilities
  • Preparing complete appropriation requests and developing/evaluating technical solutions.

Engineering Leadership for Project Execution:

  • Identify and scope major projects.
  • Manage the overall portfolio of projects.
  • Assign project and balance workload of internal and external resources.
  • Meet cost, schedule and performance expectations.
  • Ensure sound engineering practices are being applied.
  • Serve as role model and mentor for project management.

Special Cause Resolution and Urgent Response Technical Support:

  • Provide urgent response to operational issues 24/7 as needed.
  • Provide proactive support to operations by spending adequate time with Value Stream teams and key managers to see how problems are being addressed and the effectiveness of the technical resources.
  • Provide leadership and project management for major operational issues.

Business Planning and PI Initiatives:

  • Actively participate as a member of the plant leadership team to achieve overall performance and business commitments.
  • Actively participate in strategic and tactical planning events and other lean events as appropriate.
  • Develop and manage a 5-year plan for capital, capacity, infrastructure, plant reliability and facilities to meet long-range business commitments.

Capital and Cost Management:

  • Execute the annual capital plan to budget in alignment with the corporate capital planning process.
  • Facilitate key elements of the annual cost planning process.
  • Execute all projects according to schedule to meet plant budget commitments.
  • Participate in the monthly cost meetings to understand plant cost drivers and proactively address issues required to meet cost commitments

Development and Performance Management:

  • Execute Armstrong's performance management system.
  • Plan for technical turnover and competencies required.
  • Interact with AWI Technology through performance feedback on corporate resources and development assignments for new engineers.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises a team of 6 engineers and interns.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 5 years of demonstrated capital project execution and technical support for manufacturing operations
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organization skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to understand and use various computer software programs.
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to interact with colleagues at various levels of management.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • 3+ years experience leading an engineering team

About the location (Macon GA)

Our Macon Plant, one of twelve Armstrong plants in North America, employs over 400 peopleworking on rotating shifts, 24/7, in the manufacture and shipment of acoustical ceiling tile to Armstrong's customers. Located approximately 85 miles south of Atlanta, the Macon facility has 33 acres under one roof, or 1.5 million square feet of floor space. It is the largest ceiling tile factory in the world. The operations are complex, automated, use the latest modern management technology, and manufacture a wide range of commercial and residential ceiling products.

Macon, also known as the "Cherry Blossom Capital of the World", is in the heart of Georgia and marks a historical crossroads in the south.
