Job Summary

Responsible for monitoring the field positions/activities of Law Enforcement officers, investigators and non-sworn patrollers; dispatching the officers in a prompt efficient manner to emergency and service calls and coordinating other non-university emergency response services

  • Responsible for monitoring the field positions/activities of Law Enforcement officers, investigators and non-sworn patrollers; dispatching the officers in a prompt efficient manner to emergency and service calls and coordinating other non-university emergency response services (Metro-Dade Fire Rescue, Metro-Dade Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Marine Patrol). Makes independent decisions on sending back-up to Law Enforcement officers in order to insure the security of the officers.
  • Operates/monitors the FIU Police Department radio; NCIC/FCIC terminals; university-wide fire/intrusion alarm network; the Police Department TDD/emergency/ business phone system and the radio transmissions for Miami Dade Police Department, FIU Parking & Transportation and Facilities.
  • Reviews, evaluates and disseminates criminal activity/confidential information to those authorized persons who have a need to know on a 24-hour basis. Maintains a University-wide emergency contact file. Provides information/assistance to members of the public who visit the University Police Department on a 24-hour basis. Receives reports of crime to be disseminated for appropriate officer response.
  • Compiles daily logs, compiles reports as necessary for use in evaluation of all law enforcement field activities; performs routine checking of the emergency call box system and assists with routine maintenance/testing of university fire and burglar alarms.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma and one (1) year of experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education, experience, and/or vocational/technical training.State certification on the FCIC/NCIC computer system must be completed within 6 months of hired. FCIC/NCIC Certification

  • State certification on the NCIC/FCIC computer system.
