Description of primary duties and responsibilities: |
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The primary mission of the Department of Performing and Fine Arts (which includes
NASM-accredited programs) is to produce graduates in the performing and fine arts-music, dance, theater, and visual arts-who will be leaders and advocates in their respective fields. The Department is also committed to building community through the arts by being a resource for performing and fine arts pedagogy, cultivating a climate where creativity flourishes, and engaging the community with producing and disseminating the performing and fine arts. |

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The nine-month, non-tenured track position in Choral Conducting (Director of Choral Activities) is to teach vocal-related ensembles. Fayetteville State University Choral activities include The University Concert Choir and chamber vocal ensembles. Additional responsibilities will be assigned according to the department's needs and the candidate's abilities and qualifications in one or more of the following areas: Music Theory, Music History, Applied Instrumental, or Voice. The candidate will sustain, develop, and promote the Department of Performing and Fine Arts vision. The successful candidate is expected to be active as a performer on and off campus and as a collaborative artist. Recruiting and maintaining a successful choral program and active participation in local, regional, and national organizations are also expected. The lecturer will work with the School of Education and the clinical supervisor to ensure our Music Education majors are prepared for licensure requirements. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: |
- Doctorate in Music (D.M.A or Ph.D.).
- Experience teaching in higher education
- Demonstrated success in recruitment
- Knowledge and experience teaching diverse choral literature
- Experience managing budgets related to choral expenses
- Evidence of proven success in choral conducting and performances
- Exhibit a high level of collegiality and ability to work with others within a multidisciplinary department

Knowledge skills and abilities: |
Knowledge and experience teaching diverse choral literature, including repertoire and literature relevant to the Historically Black College University experience. |
Preferred Qualifications: |
Evidence of proven success in choral teaching and conducting at the university level
Ability to accompany choir during rehearsals.
Background in vocal teaching.
Experience in performing diverse genres of music.
Demonstrated success in fundraising. |
