Responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the staff development and educational activities designed to address identified or anticipated needs of learners for assigned area(s). Assures the quality of patient care, and clinical practice progression on assigned cross-campus unit(s) through the assessment, coaching, and development of the nursing staff and collaboration with interdisciplinary care team. This includes the all aspects of clinical practice, patient care, workplace safety, and the outcomes of care patients receive. Participates in the development and implementation of educational programs for the entire Nursing Department.

Position Summary:

Responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the staff development and educational activities designed to address identified or anticipated needs of learners for assigned area(s). Assures the quality of patient care, and clinical practice progression through the assessment, coaching, and development of the nursing staff and collaboration with interdisciplinary care team. This includes all aspects of clinical practice, patient care, workplace safety, and the outcomes of care patients receive.

Clinical Practice & Patient Experience:

  • Responsible for communicating, educating and monitoring changes to clinical practice and expectations including reviewing documentation, providing additional support to staff and reporting ongoing non-compliance to management.
  • Collaborates with the leadership team in the strategic planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of systems to support and enhance the competence, autonomy, and accountability of the nursing staff including defining nursing standards, practices, and educational needs of nursing staff.

Leadership/Management:

  • Acts as a member of the nursing leadership team by participating in interview panels, orientation, annual regulatory and clinical competency requirements. Reports unprofessional or unsafe practice to the Nurse Manager.
  • Assists Manager and/or designee to ensure the department complies with hospital established policies, regulatory, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.

Quality, Safety and Experience Improvements:

  • Promotes a culture of safety within the organization.
  • Reports out on all entered Safety Intelligence Reports; Responsible for initial review and investigation and escalate serious reportable events (SRE) immediately to the Nurse Manager

License/Certification/Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Education, or related healthcare field.
  • Currently holds an active RN license in the State of Massachusetts.
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification

Required:

  • Must have at least 3 years of clinical nursing experience with at least 1year experience in clinical preceptor and/or charge nurse role.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation computer software.
  • Position requires frequent use of the computer, keyboard and printer; educational equipment such as teaching manikins, simulators, LCD projectors, etc.; and reading of printed materials

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Education, or related healthcare field.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

  • Must have at least 3 years of clinical nursing experience with at least 1year experience in clinical preceptor and/or charge nurse role.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation computer software.
  • Position requires frequent use of the computer, keyboard and printer; educational equipment such as teaching manikins, simulators, LCD projectors, etc.; and reading of printed materials

Preferred:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching highly desired.
  • Process improvement experience.

Hours/Schedule Notes:

  • Four 10-hour shifts. Flexible self-scheduling in order to collaborate with all shifts.
  • Schedule requires working every 5th Saturday.
