Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager; the Automation Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical design creation and detailing of automated systems throughout several manufacturing industries from start to finish.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the sales team to evaluate mechanical automation application feasibility, and design concepts throughout several manufacturing industries
  • Design automated systems and equipment with the integration of robotics including end of arm tools, tooling, and guarding
  • Create drawing details of sheet metal, weldment, and assembly components of mechanical designs
  • Provide system layouts and installation drawings
  • Research, design, and evaluate mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet customer expectations
  • Specify mechanical and pneumatic components for procurement and/or direct modification of products working with vendors to ensure conformance with engineering design and customer expectations
  • Select methods of production, fabrication, and operations of manufactured system components
  • Conduct reach analysis and sizing of robotic arms
  • Provide solutions to technical issues by applying problem solving techniques
  • Compile final system documentation package
  • Complete all necessary project management documents
  • Support and oversee projects from concept to completion
  • Operate in a team environment to help meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Participate in project reviews completing all necessary project management documents to help ensure projects complete on time and on budget consistent with customers' expectations
  • Research and stay current with best available technologies related to automation
  • Help identify and cultivate new sales opportunities by building relationships with existing, new, and potential customers/vendors
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications



    • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
    • 3-5 years' minimum of Mechanical Engineering design experience
    • Strong 2D and 3D CAD skills

      • AutoCAD and SolidWorks with PDM experience preferred


    • Excellent communication and project management skills
    • Possess strong ME skill sets that will be utilized in the design of automation systems
    • Able to translate automation conceptual designs into functional equipment
    • Able to think analytically and creatively while keeping safety and cost in mind
    • Able to operate on own initiative with minimal supervision, but also contribute as a team member working within the Mechanical Engineering team and other cross functional teams including Sales, Automation Controls Engineering, and shop floor Electro-Mechanical Technicians
    • Proficient user of Microsoft Office products
    • SAP and Fanuc robot knowledge and experience is a plus!
