The Community Affairs Department within the Child Health Advocacy Institute at Children's National elevates community health needs and community benefit, facilitates partnerships between the health care system and our community, and works across sectors to address policy and system issues to improve health equity for all children. We accomplish this through the following strategies: 1) Lead and collaborate on community health improvement efforts through programs, partnerships, policies, and system changes that address community health needs and 2) Evaluate and communicate the impact of community health improvement efforts.

The Program Coordinator will work on a multitude of programs within the Community Affairs Department. This position will primarily focus on the Community Benefit program including but not limited to development and implementation of education and communication plans, data collection, and entry, analysis and report development and creation of the Community Benefit Report. This individual will support the Community Health Needs Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan efforts. This position will also have responsibility to support internal and external advocacy efforts and community education outreach programs. This individual will also be asked to support additional programs and activities related to Community Affairs. As a member of the Community Affairs staff, the employee will act as a resource to CNH departments and staff to cultivate relationships and services in the community, and will increase the visibility and participation of the CNH community affairs team in the Washington, DC metropolitan healthcare communities.

Qualifications Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree In related field preferred (e.g., public health, public policy , psychology , education) (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
3 years Experience working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team (Required)

Strong understanding of program evaluation methodologies
Strong organizational and project management skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with data analysis and statistical software.

Functional Accountabilities
Program Coordination
  • Coordinates community-based project(s) in collaboration with external partners
  • Assists in the development of project scope statements, timelines, and deliverables
  • Participates in bi-weekly supervision and relevant staff meetings and events
  • Maintains understanding of advances in early childhood issue area(s) of responsibility and incorporates into work
  • Works with staff and partners to identify and address system barriers
  • Prepares periodic summaries of projects for internal and external audiences
  • Recommend and participate in development of new processes and systems to meet project and team needs
Research and Evaluation Coordination
  • Plans and coordinates program evaluation activities
  • Engages in qualitative and quantitative data analysis
  • Organize and maintain database(s) to track project progress and resource needs
  • Contribute to and assist with preparation of posters, abstracts, presentations and publications
  • Provide progress on publications, abstracts, posters and presentations
Program Liaison
  • Works collaboratively and serves as liaison with healthcare providers, researchers and multidisciplinary staff, as well as with community agencies and partners
  • Attends community meetings
  • Communicates barriers, challenges and any other issues that affect progress
  • Participates in quality improvement activities
Administrative Support
  • Coordinate teleconferences, meetings and events
  • Draft minutes and collate feedback from meetings
  • Create reports and other documents as needed.
