Sentara Heart Hospital located at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Cardiac Technician for the Cardiac Cath Holding Care Recovery Unit!

Position Overview:

A Cardiac Technician will assist staff in the Cath Holding Care Unit. Candidate should have 1-2 years of patient care experience. Cardiac tech will recover patients for procedures done in the Cath, Non-Invasive and EP Lab. Tech will place IVs, draw labs, set up telemetry monitor, pull sheaths, and transport patients.

This position is swing shift, working 9am-9pm 3 days a week Monday - Friday.

Education/Certification/Experience

High School Grad or Equivalent

Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)

o 1-2 years of patient care experience

o EKG Holter Monitor Hook-up experience ideal

Job Summary

Cardiac Techs help aid the RNs throughout the prep and recovery of our Cardiac Catheterization, Electrophysiology, and Cardiac OR patients. In our department we prep and recover 40 - 60 patients a day. In the recovery area, the cardiac techs are trained to settle patients in the room postoperatively (hooking to the monitor, cleaning, repositioning); obtain EKGs or any specimens ordered; remove arterial and venous sheaths from the femoral, radial and brachial sites; help patients that are on bedrest with eating, toileting, or any other request per the patient; and transporting patients to their inpatient room or assisting in the discharge process. This job does require the capabilities to lift, push, pull, and standing for long periods of time.

This position is 9A-9P Monday - Friday. No weekends or major holidays.

Department/Position Overview:
* We are a CARE Unit: Cardiac Assessment, Recovery, and Evaluation Unit.
* Our unit is open 6A-11P Monday-Friday. We admit and recover patients mostly during the day and have a light night team for patients that need observation.
* The unit prepares and recovers patients for procedures in the Cath lab, EP lab, and Minor Procedure Room as well as the Cardiac OR for surgery.
* The average patient volume each day for this unit is approximately 40-60 patients.
* The types of procedures that we prepare and recover patients for include but is not limited to: Cardiac Catheterization (interventional and diagnostic), Electrophysiology procedures such as cardiac ablations, Cardioversions, surgery and ICDs/Pacemakers etc, and Cardiac OR.

Qualifications:

HS - High School Grad or Equivalent (Required) Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) RQI, Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) - Certification - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
