Job Summary

The Instructional Designer & Employee Development Coordinator develops, oversees, and coordinates training programming in collaboration with campus stakeholders. This role seeks to understand organizational needs by building relationships and leveraging internal expertise. The Instructional Designer & Employee Development Coordinator functions beyond curriculum development and training delivery to oversee and coordinate successful programming that meets development and training goals.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Promotes, supports, and oversees professional development for University employees using an understanding of organizational structure and culture.
  • Works with University partners to identify professional development needs and meet development goals. Builds relationships with campus stakeholders and leverages internal expertise to meet organization's development goals.
  • Conducts focus groups, needs assessments, surveys, and interviews with University partners and subject matter experts to identify skills gaps and determine learning objectives based on University goals, job roles, and learner needs.
  • Designs and develops engaging and effective curriculum to support University partners and overall University training and development needs.
  • Utilizes Learning Management Systems (LMS), authoring tools, and other educational technologies to deliver, track, and assess training programs efficiently.
  • Identifies skill gaps; researches and develops learning pathways for upskilling to close skill gaps.
  • Creates, reviews, and updates professional development content. Collaborates with subject matter experts, department managers, and cross-functional teams to ensure training content is accurate, relevant, and aligned with University objectives.
  • Delivers professional development content to employees and campus partners using a variety of platforms including online courses, instructor-led workshops, multimedia presentations, and job aids, using instructional design principles and best practices.
  • Oversees the execution of training logistics, including scheduling sessions, booking venues, managing enrollment, and communicating with participants to ensure smooth delivery of training programs.
  • Responsible for facilitation of training sessions as needed, either in person or virtually, and provides support to guest instructors or subject matter experts involved in training delivery.
  • Develops assessment strategies and evaluation criteria to measure effectiveness of training programs. Gathers feedback from participants and analyzes data to inform continuous improvement efforts.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with LMS Administrator to ensure proper course delivery and tracking in Workday.
  • Creates, publishes, and maintains a University employee development/training calendar.
  • Identifies, researches, and evaluates external resources to supplement existing professional development content.
  • Builds an internal partner network of subject matter experts and utilizes that network to support University professional development needs.
  • Creates, reviews, and updates progressive leadership training.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Professional experience in employee development, instructional design, education, training, or other related field.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience with personal computers using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Education, Education Technology, Instructional Design, or closely related field.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Experience using Workday.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of problem solving, interviewing, investigating, and research techniques.
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and effective online pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of course development and Learning Management System support.
  • Knowledge of software tools used for developing instructional content.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply human resources principles, concepts, and practices.
  • Knowledge of adult education principles and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a diverse community and willing to contribute to a team effort.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training presentations and programs.
  • Ability to identify and learn new software tools for the creation of learning materials used in online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses.
