Program Assistant

Position Summary

The Salvation Army Lakewood is "Doing the Most Good" by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families in need. In addition to worship services and pastoral care, services include short and long-term case management; food, clothing, utility, rent, and housing support; youth programming, and connections to community partners.

The Program Assistant helps plan and lead programming and activities, supports seasonal initiatives, and assists with planning and teaching Christian education. Additionally, the Assistant maintains participant records and performs custodial duties when programming activities allow.

$18.00/hour, 20 hours/week

Essential Functions (Approximate time spent)



  • Program and Event Coordination (65%): Assist with planning and leading programs, events, trips, and activities that emphasize spiritual, educational, recreational, and relational development for participants.
  • Seasonal and Special Events Support (15%): Help with the organization and execution of seasonal initiatives and special events, such as the Red Kettle Campaign and Angel Tree.
  • Worship and Christian Education Participation (10%): Participate in worship services and Christian education programs, assisting leadership with planning and teaching responsibilities.
  • Data Management (5%): Maintain accurate and up-to-date information for all participants.
  • Custodial Duties (5%): Ensure the facility remains clean, tidy, and sanitary by performing custodial tasks as needed.



Education and Experience



  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of experience in youth programming, ministry, or social services is preferred.
  • Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and familiarity with The Salvation Army as a church.
  • Valid driver's license, meet MVR driver's qualifications, and pass background checks.

  • Works with integrity, valuing honesty, and diligence.
  • Proficient with PC, Microsoft Office, databases, and standard office equipment.



Working Conditions



  • Moderate physical work and be able to lift to 50 pounds.
  • Professional environment; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
  • Must be able to drive, sit, communicate clearly, and work in person or on the phone.
  • Work hours will include evenings and occasional weekends.



Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

Driving/Travel Requirements

Regular local driving using an agency vehicle as well as occasional longer drives.
