General Purpose of Job: The Perioperative Assistant an integral part of the surgical team. They will provide assistance and carry out delegated duties by the circulating RN and Surgical Tech. The Perioperative Assistant will assist with patient transport, specimen and blood product transport to and from lab, equipment management and room turnover. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Transport patients from nursing units to surgical department
- Assist the RN and the Surgical Technologist transferring patient to and from the operating room bed
- Obtain necessary equipment requested by the RN and Surgical Tech
- Removal and cleaning of used equipment
- Maintain organization of equipment rooms
- Transport soiled case carts to decontam
- Transport endoscopes to and from Endoscopy
- Assist with room turnover and set up which includes cleaning, removing soiled case cart, opening sterile supplies and any other assigned duties.
- Remain within assigned area to be readily available for room/patient assistance; primary duties consist of continuous availability to facilitate workflow and patient care in a timely manner. This expectation is within their assigned area as well as the general patient care areas throughout Surgery.

Work Experience |
* Successful completion of orientation * Skills and knowledge needed to perform the principal duties and responsibilities of this position may be gained through education, training and experience. * PCT experience. Preferred. * Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Preferred. |

* Physically able to do extensive walking, standing, lifting, pulling and pushing associated with patient care and essential duties * Interpersonal skills to effectively work as part of the team * Excellent communication skills to effectively and appropriately assist patients and families as they receive care in the department * Preferred - Knowledge of basic medical terminology |
