Our College Finance Office has begun the search for an Assistant Controller . The Assistant Controller at Lane Community College will play a key role in managing the day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting of the institution

Salary/Wage Range: Starting Salary Range $102,612 - $110,985 (Management Salary Grade 23)- Initial Salary Placement Range
Salary/Compensation Statement:

  • The position's full salary range is $102,612 to $151,891. New employees cannot be placed higher than $110,985 (step 3 on the salary grade) due to internal equity. The application is used to determine the initial salary placement for selected candidates. All employment and education history will be considered.
  • Our Management Benefits package includes a generous contribution toward medical, dental and vision insurance, long term disability as well as paid sick leave and vacation time.
  • Lane Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Questions regarding your loan eligibility should be directed to your loan servicer or to the US Department of Education.

Required QUALIFICATIONS


Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Required Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and financial reporting requirements.

Position Purpose:
The Assistant Controller will assist the Controller in maintaining the financial integrity of the college by ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, overseeing financial procedures, and supporting the financial health of the college through detailed analysis and reporting. This position requires strong organizational skills, a deep understanding of accounting principles, and a commitment to the college's mission of providing quality education to the community.
Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Controller in managing and overseeing all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and governmental regulations.
  • Manage the annual audit process and ensure timely completion of all audit-related tasks and reports.
  • Collaborate with the Controller to develop and monitor the annual budget, including forecasting and financial analysis.
  • Ensure that all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance on best practices and professional development.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and enforcement of financial policies and internal controls to safeguard the college's assets.
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and other accounting reports.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, including tax filings and reporting requirements.
  • Support the Controller in evaluating financial performance and identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Assist in the management of grant accounting, ensuring compliance with grant guidelines and proper reporting.
  • Serve as a liaison with departments across the college to provide financial information and support budgeting needs.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned by the Controller or senior leadership.
  • Ensure the implementation of the College's Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunities concerning policies, goals, and timetables in assigned areas. Ensure staff development on diversity, inclusive climate, and respectful learning and working environment issues.
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.

Supervision Statement:
The Assistant Controller reports to the Controller in the College Finance Department.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:

  • This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that include office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors.
  • This position requires that an employee is able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day.
  • Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
