General Information:

JMU's School of Professional & Continuing Education collaborates with individuals, business, and communities through transformative educational programs and experiences. SPCE offers a range of programs, including youth camps, adult degree completion, professional and workforce development, and lifelong learning, as well as partners with academic units across JMU to support a number of online or off-campus degree and certificate programs. SPCE partners with the College of Integrated Science and Engineering to offer a state-wide dual enrollment program called the Geospatial Semester, which trains high school students and their teachers in spatial thinking and geospatial technologies.

This part-time stipend position will support high schools specifically in the Northern Virginia area. This position's assignment runs through the school year ending in May 2025. During the assignment, the position will work around 10 hours a week.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Conduct regular school visits to Geospatial Semester high schools in Northern Virginia
- Support and mentor students and teachers in the use of geospatial technologies
- Mentor student projects
- Communicate classroom observations with Geospatial Semester leadership
- Participate in student midterm and final project assessments

Qualifications:

- Experience in teaching or mentoring high school students
- Experience in the use of geospatial technologies
- Experience supporting project-based learning
- Strong communication skills
