The Department of Management in the Trulaske College of Business

Job Description

The Department of Management in the Trulaske College of Business at the University of Missouri (MU) invites applicants to apply for a tenure-track faculty position in Strategic Management (including Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology Management). Assistant and advanced assistant professors are preferred, and associate professors will be considered (ABD candidates are not eligible for the position). The minimum requirement is a PhD in management, entrepreneurship, or a related area, with a demonstrated research track record of publications commensurate with rank at an AAU and AACSB-accredited business school. While the start date is open, we expect a timeframe beginning no later than August 2025.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a productive, high-potential, and active research record in strategic management broadly defined. Collaborative work with faculty and doctoral students is expected. Experience guiding doctoral student dissertations is preferred.

Key skills sought include expertise and emerging leadership in strategy research, with a preference for technology and innovation, as well as proven teaching abilities at all levels and collegiality in service roles. Mentorship of doctoral students and publishing in top-tier, "A" level journals are prioritized. We desire candidates who will help achieve our goal of becoming a top-20 management department in terms of research excellence and instructional program innovation.

The Management Department consists of three research-oriented faculty groups: Strategy, Innovation & Entrepreneurship; Organizational Behavior and HR; and Supply Chain Management, Information Systems & Analytics. We are building a revitalized department based on reimagining what business and business education should be to serve constituents into the future. Our faculty in strategy -- Joel Andrus, Steve Downing, Rick Johnson, Doug Moesel, Charles Connaughton, Enlan Wang, and Joe Nahm -- contribute significant scholarly research and innovative instructional programs addressing cutting edge organizations, new forms of organizing, flexible and nimble organizations, organizations in the information age, creativity, and the idea economy. Faculty in the strategy group have published in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Annals, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Management and other prestigious journals.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in management, entrepreneurship, or closely related areas.

Candidates will be evaluated on: Evidence of research productivity and potential, including publications in top tier journals in strategic management and/or entrepreneurship and work in progress. Evidence of teaching effectiveness.

The Trulaske College of Business consists of about 53 full-time, tenured/tenure-track faculty members who serve approximately 5,000 undergraduates, over 300 master's students, and 35 doctoral students. The Department of Management currently consists of 14 tenured/tenure-track faculty and 16 full-time teaching faculty who share a strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching.
