Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary
Supervision and management of the Molecular Diagnostics Section (including BSL3 and CLIA labs); Sectional staff includes 3 full time employees. Participate in bench-work testing when necessary and in charge of training of new employees. Verification of results produced by the section personnel before those results are sent to clients. Oversight of the quality assurance program in the section. Maintain inventories and order reagents and supplies for the section.

Excellent attention to detail with good organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
Knowledge of laboratory procedures.
Ability to conduct research, follow both oral and written instructions.

Duties/Responsibilities


Duties/Responsibilities
1. Plan, coordinate, and supervise the operation of the Molecular Diagnostic Section (including BSL3 and CLIA labs).
2. Ensure that submitted samples are processed, tested and results reported in a timely manner.
3. Conduct annual employee evaluations.
4. Participate in the hiring of section personnel.
5. Supervise and train new technicians and student workers.
6. Supervise general housekeeping (sweeping, mopping, organizing etc.) in Molecular, BSL3 and CLIA lab.
7. Manage the day-to-day operations, trouble-shoot problems with testing and initiate changes as needed, with input from the faculty supervisor.
8. Assist educational activities for visiting students, interns and externs etc.

1. Perform/assist in diagnostic and research testing when necessary, including samples from Bacteriology/Mycology Section.
2. Coordinate and participates in proficiency testing administered by federal agencies.
3. For proficiency testing: validating reagents (primers and probes) & maintaining control materials.
4. Implement new protocols, including personnel training of new SOPs.

1. Write, maintain, and revise all Quality System documentation including, but not limited to: SOPs, training records for personnel, maintenance records for equipment, maintaining control material and tracking of control performance.
2. Direct oversight of all section personnel in: entry of testing results in VetView and review results of testing conducted in the laboratory section for accuracy before results are sent to clients.
3. Ensure that all personnel in the section are aware and familiar with the quality system requirements.
