Duties and Responsibilities
Position: Chief Resident
Location: Loyola MacNeal Hospital, Berwyn, Illinois
Academic Year: 2025-2026

About Us: Loyola MacNeal Hospital is a 374-bed facility with three residency programs: Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Transitional Year. We are currently seeking two Chief Residents to enhance our Internal Medicine and Transitional Year programs, working closely with 42 Internal Medicine and 14 Transitional Year residents.

Position Overview: The Chief Resident role is a one-year position that offers a unique opportunity for recent residency graduates to develop their teaching and leadership skills while gaining valuable clinical experience as an attending physician. Chief Residents will engage in educational, administrative, and patient care responsibilities, including:
* Leading teaching conferences for residents and medical students.
* Presenting CME-accredited lectures to attending physicians.
* Managing simulation workshops and high-fidelity simulations.
* Participating in hospital and program committees.
* Leading a Quality Improvement Project aligned with personal interests.
* Supervising residents in continuity clinics and as inpatient medicine attending's.
* Opportunities for moonlighting, including weekend shifts with the hospitalist team (night call taken from home).

Benefits of the Position: By the end of the academic year, Chief Residents will gain a deeper understanding of hospital leadership, graduate medical education, and essential administrative skills, which are invaluable for careers in academic medicine, hospital medicine, or private practice.

Application Criteria: Ideal candidates should meet the following requirements:
1. Doctor of Medicine Degree (MD or DO).
2. Completion of an Internal Medicine Residency Training Program; Board Eligibility in Internal Medicine.
3. Interest in medical education and curricular development.
4. Dedication to teaching and a desire to further develop teaching skills.
5. Please note: We do not sponsor visas for chief positions.
Location: MacNeal Hospital is conveniently located in Berwyn, just a 20-minute drive from downtown Chicago.
