The Advanced Electro-Optical Systems Group specializes in the rapid design and prototyping of innovative electro-optic systems that address challenges facing the Department of Defense, NASA, and other U.S. government entities. The group maintains broad expertise in satellite systems, electro-optical and infrared sensors, charge-coupled devices, electronics, image processing, and low-size/weight/power optical communications systems. The vertically-integrated group leverages this core expertise to architect, design, prototype, and deploy hardware and software systems in support of mission needs. Emphasis is on working closely with end users to develop enabling concepts, then building and fielding integrated systems on responsive timelines. The group seeks self-motivated engineers and scientists with multidisciplinary skill sets and a passion for prototyping systems that address critical national needs.


Job Description

The Advanced Electro-Optic Systems Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory seeks a senior IT professional to join a small team supporting the growing information technology needs of a roughly 50-person group. The role calls for a self-starting mission-focused person who works well with others to support a broad range of IT needs. The successful candidate will take a lead role working with developers and researchers to adopt modern IT tools and processes such as GitLab CI/CD pipelines into the development workflow, and will also participate with the IT team in administering the group's large number of virtual and physical compute and storage systems in accordance with Lincoln Laboratory and government standards.

Ideal candidate provides technical leadership and is able to advise, consult, and provide organizational assistance as needed. Also be able to handle unique challenges, determine solutions, and drive to completion.

The hardware focus of the group necessitates a strong on-site presence for the role.

Required Skills

  • BS in technical field plus 6 years of experience or a master's degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience, or equivalent. In lieu of a BS,total years of related experience will be considered
  • Expertise in Linux systems administration, specifically RedHat andUbuntu
  • Expertise in virtualization and containerization, e.g. VmWare, Docker, Kubernetes, Podman
  • Working knowledge of DevOps tools and pipelines
  • Experience with standing up and maintaining databases / data stores such as MySQL, InfluxDB, Elasticsearch

Desired Skills

  • Windows / MacOS systems administration
  • Computer networking
  • Service monitoring, e.g. through Grafana
  • Configuration-as-Code tools such as Ansible
  • Git systems administration: GitLab or GitHub
  • Prior experience with IT system security compliance, e.g. NIST, PCI, HIPPA
  • Amazon Web Services
