Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Division of Student Affairs fosters student growth and development. The Division of Student Affairs aids, directs and informs students about services and programs that will expand students' educational experiences and prepare them for diverse lives in local and global communities. The Division of Student Affairs is responsible for many of the outside the classroom/off campus aspects oi student life at
ECSU, including student engagement and leadership; career services; student disability services, residential life; student activities; community standards; special programs and services; student health & counseling services and career services. |
Description of Work |
The Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (
AVC) reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. The
AVC provides leadership and vision in administering a comprehensive range of programs and services related to planning; assists in creating campus culture that promotes the academic achievement and personal development of all undergraduate students; assists with crisis response and institutional initiatives; advocates on behalf of students; and fosters collaborative relationships amongst students, faculty, and staff. |
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position |
Possess a strong understanding of student development concepts, how to work with student leaders in a University environment and how to motivate, create accountability and excellence in the implementation of service provision amongst staff.
Must have a strong understanding of how the university functions and the ability to develop and steward partnerships to advance divisional goals.
Must be business orientated as it relates to keen sense of budget management and scale based on the availability of departmental resources.
Strong track record of organizational planning techniques and a proven track record of success.
Ability to lead, develop and assess Student Affairs as expectations evolve related to retention and satisfaction with programs and services.
Ability to interact and successfully engage in conversations at a high level with senior level administrators and other institutional stakeholders.
An understanding and proven ability to effectively direct professional and student employees.
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to anticipate the Vice Chancellor's needs and demonstrate a high degree of initiative.
Possess a professional demeanor and discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Possess a high level of proficiency in calendar management, research planning and problem solving.
Possess a high level of proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and ability to quickly learn new software programs. |
Minimum Training and Experience |
Possess a Master's degree and at least 7 years of progressive leadership experiences in Higher Education or an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
