Description

The Laboratory Assistant III will perform technical and supervisory duties in the laboratory. You will supervise purchasing, distribution, and maintenance of lab equipment used by all lab personnel. You will also supervise lower level Lab Assistants and students in the laboratory, coordinate the physical preparation of experiments, and supervise the preparation and distribution of buffer media, chemical solutions and other materials for experiments. You will assist in conducting animal experiments in traumatic brain injury. Duties include, but are not limited to: rodent surgical techniques, rodent behavioral testing, immunohistochemistry, PCR, tissue preservation, tissue slicing and processing, microscopy and behavioral analysis. You will be expected to follow all laboratory safety practices.

Pay Range: $25.39 - $30.22/Hourly

Qualifications

All Required:



  • High School Diploma or a GED and three years of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the biological sciences with 2 years of lab experience or equivalent combination of education.
  • Must have knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • Previous experience in or ability to learn small-animal surgery and laboratory techniques.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new techniques as needed for ongoing and developing projects.
  • Ability to complete, submit, and obtain approval for animal protocols.
  • Ability to order supplies, track expenditures for supplies, lab maintenance, and other recurring expenses; responsible for general maintenance upkeep of laboratory equipment; train new personnel in the use of laboratory equipment; ensure laboratory is in compliance with various safety requirements; ability to supervise student lab helpers.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments and results both in writing and computerized database.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with great organizational skills
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, faculty and administrators.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and competing priorities.
  • General knowledge of UCLA policies and procedures.
