Municipal Fellows Cohort Coordinator

General Summary of Position:

The Municipal Fellows Cohort Coordinator will lead the Municipal Fellows Program, placing up to 20 graduate students annually in municipalities across Massachusetts as part of the Massachusetts Clean Energy and Environment Legacy Transition (CELT) Initiative. This role is central to supporting the state's transition to geothermal and clean energy solutions, particularly within environmental justice communities, through partnerships with universities and municipalities.

The Coordinator will design and implement a training program for the student fellows, establish and maintain relationships with statewide universities and municipalities, and frequently engage with the MA Green Communities Division. A key part of the role is to evaluate program success through KPIs, particularly in terms of increased municipal participation in clean energy programs and the receipt of external funding. The Coordinator will also handle operational logistics, including budget management, reporting, sub-awards, proposal development, and audits, in support of the CELT project's overall goals.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Lead and coordinate the Municipal Fellows Program, placing up to 20 graduate students annually in Massachusetts municipalities to support clean energy and geothermal projects, with a focus on environmental justice communities.
  • Develop and implement training programs for student fellows, ensuring they provide technical support to municipalities in areas such as geothermal energy, clean energy financing, and participation in state programs like Green School Works.
  • Build and maintain relationships with universities, municipalities, and state agencies, including the MA Green Communities Division, to support student placements and municipal energy transition projects.
  • Track and evaluate program success using KPIs, focusing on increased municipal participation in clean energy programs and success in securing external funding.
  • Manage operational logistics for the program, including budget oversight, reporting, sub-awards, proposal development, and audits, ensuring alignment with the CELT initiative's overall goals.


Minimum Qualifications (Required):



  • Degree in environmental science, business, planning, public administration, sustainability, or a related field (Associate, Bachelor, or Master's).
  • 3-5 years of experience in program coordination, project management, or related roles, particularly in sustainability, clean energy, or municipal partnerships.
  • Proven experience building and managing partnerships with municipalities, universities, or government agencies.
  • Knowledge of clean energy technologies (e.g., geothermal energy) and state-level sustainability initiatives (e.g., Green Communities, MVP).
  • Strong skills in budget management, reporting, and the administration of sub-awards and proposals.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently, with attention to detail, and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across municipalities, universities, and government agencies.


Additional Considerations:



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data tracking systems; familiarity with state and federal energy programs is a plus.
