Required Education:
Two (2) years of post-secondary education with course work in psychology, counseling, social work, education, human resources or a related field.
Required Experience:
Three (3) years of related experience.
Licensure or Certification Requirements

  • Previous experience with those who are unhoused, unemployed, under-employed, low-income, veterans, ex-offenders, disabled, dislocated workers, English language learners, GED students, first-generation immigrants, and/or first-generation students.
  • Experience as a case manager.
  • Experience working with workforce systems, social service agencies, and community resources.
  • Experience in helping people apply for various benefits including SNAP, housing, financial aid, child care, student admissions processes, etc.
  • Student services experience in the areas of advising, testing, financial aid, or related.

Position Purpose:
The Career Pathways Coach for Career Pathways will recruit and provide case management for student participants who are pursuing short-term vocational educational opportunities, Career Pathways Certificates, Occupational Skills options, Culinary and Baking programs, or other industry credentials. They will work with students facing barriers to education and work with partner agencies in a shared case management system, help students navigate college resources, and help students connect with and access community resources. Career Pathways coaches work as part of the Career Pathways coaching team which includes individuals who focus on Basic Needs, unhoused student resources, DACA, Vocational Rehabilitation, Culinary and Baking, Occupational Skills, Pre-Apprenticeship, ESL, GED, and other special populations. While coaches are assigned specific areas, they are also expected to be trained in all Career Pathways programs so as to work collaboratively as a team.
Essential Functions:
Case Management

  • Manage a caseload of STEP or other workforce participants pursuing short-term vocational educational options, Career Pathways Certificates, Culinary and Baking, GED, ESL or job search activities.
  • Provide a safe and calm environment for students in crisis or facing extreme stress and difficulties including food and housing insecurity, justice involved, former foster youth, neurodiversity, and many other barriers to education.
  • Support and mentor participants in developing, monitoring, and adjusting individual career & employment plans.
  • Assist students in assessing and addressing barriers to education and employment opportunities.
  • Track and monitor participant progress utilizing a pro-active case management approach, intervening as appropriate to develop successful outcomes.
  • Accurately and appropriately input student and participant data into multiple tracking systems such as iMatch, EAB Navigate, etc.
  • Provide regular input of participant contact, services provided, progress and outcomes into designated databases and spreadsheets. Maintain client files, records, and documentation.
  • Prepare required and regular reports on client progress.


Small group facilitation/job search support

  • Use appropriate technology to create and administer workshops, job search activities, and/or student success strategies.
  • Assist successful completers with job search preparation, including resume development, interviewing skills, strategic planning, and appropriate use of social media. Refer appropriate candidates to agency partners for enhanced job search.

Collaboration and resource referral

  • Develop and maintain a broad base of knowledge relevant to college programs, career development, workforce development, Trade Adjustment Assistance, labor market trends, veteran programs, disability resources, and college policies and services.
  • Refer students to appropriate resources for issues related to services required outside of the scope of the position, such as mental health, housing, and food assistance.
  • Maintain a healthy working relationship with faculty, staff, and managers from various departments on campus such as ESL, ABSE, ALS, Culinary and Baking, Extended Learning, Career and Technical Education, and Student Services. Develop an understanding of associated services and refer students appropriately.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the Career Pathways team, sharing responsibilities and pursuing common goals.
  • Attend required local and statewide training, participate in regular meetings and conference calls.

Career Pathways Student Cohort Navigation

  • Track and support groups of students moving through Career Pathways Certificates or PASS Lane programs.
  • Communicate regularly with faculty, staff, and other coaches working within Career Pathways cohorts.
  • Develop an understanding of Career Pathways certificates and other short-term vocational options that are available to STEP participants.

Outreach and Communication

  • Facilitate outreach and communication with prospective student participants and partner agencies to foster an understanding of program services and benefits.
  • Communicate regularly with STEP, workforce, and social service partner agencies with shared case management or direct referrals.

General

  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervision Statement:
Reports to and works under the general supervision of a division/department dean, program coordinator, or other supervisor. Training and daily supervision are provided by the Lead Coach in the department. Work is performed with considerable independence using judgment concerning applicability and interpretation of laws and regulations. Work is reviewed for the accuracy of advice provided to participants.
This position may have the responsibility to assign tasks, provide priorities, train and monitor the work of assessment/testing specialists, office support staff, student assistants, and volunteers.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that include office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work safely.
