Proposal Development Specialist

The Proposal Development Specialist leads the development of research proposals through integrated project management with an emphasis on growing federally sponsored, large-scale, interdisciplinary research grants and contracts. Based on regular review of identified target mechanisms or sponsors/programs, the Proposal Development Specialist also helps to provide early opportunity identification and work far in advance of deadlines (particularly for recurring opportunities that are targeted) to enhance success rates.

Reporting to the Senior Director for Research Strategy and Operations and the Director of Research Proposal Development, the Proposal Development Specialist works with department, center, and institute leaders and faculty researchers to identify target areas of strength and emerging opportunities and develop proposals that align with University, State, and Federal priorities.The Proposal Development Specialist supports early-stage identification, analysis, planning and development of strategic, multidisciplinary funding opportunities; Enables and enhances the competitiveness of research programs and proposals for external support through strategic, proactive and capacity-building activities, including funding opportunity identification, research team building and outreach activities.

Successful candidates will be intellectually curious, self-motivated, and able to exercise considerable independent judgement with limited supervision. In addition, successful candidates will have proven ability to manage stressful situations that arise while managing multiple priorities under deadline pressure and be able to effectively interact with and guide diverse teams comprised of faculty, students, and staff from multiple technical and academic areas. The ideal candidate for this position will have grant writing, editing, and project management skills and demonstrated experience with preparing PIs and proposal teams leading up to an opportunity.

Minimum Education and Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in relevant field may be desirable. 6 years of relevant experience required. 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred.

Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
