Equipment Maintenance Coordinator

Summary

Responsible for coordinating the maintenance and repair of the Sanitation fleet which includes a variety of waste collection vehicles, long trucks and heavy equipment used for the collection and disposal of waste. The Fleet Coordinator works with division supervisors and the Fleet Services Department to coordinate vehicle and equipment maintenance; vehicle/equipment and parts delivery and acquisition; and perform minor repairs to vehicles and equipment.

Salary: $24 - $27/hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs vehicle/equipment inspections and related reports to ensure that equipment and personnel are available to meet work demands.

  • Prioritize and coordinate services and repairs for vehicles/equipment between the Environmental Waste Services Department (EWS) and Fleet Services Department.

  • Provides input to Fleet Services Department for EWS equipment and vehicle parts usage, including seasonal and special parts requirements.

  • Monitor and track departmental vehicles and equipment in order to schedule maintenance with Fleet Services.

  • Supervise and verify daily maintenance reports.

  • Monitors, tracks and verifies that EWS equipment/vehicle operators are performing required pre/post-trip preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles

  • Notify Fleet Service Writer of schedule changes.

  • Assist Director with CIP vehicle purchases

  • Coordinate road service calls with Fleet Services.

  • Actively communicate with Fleet Department to ensure all EWS divisions will have the required number of vehicles available

  • Analyzes needed preventative maintenance to identify related costs.

  • Predict future equipment replacement requirements to ensure adequate inventory levels.

  • Complete daily equipment status report to submit to the Service Coordinator and Operations Manager.

  • Perform safety and DOT standard inspections on all vehicles.

  • Review and analyze Fleet Anywhere reports to verify accuracy or identify discrepancies.

  • May offload brush trucks at landfill as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1-year advanced study past the high school level

  • 4 years related experience

  • Class A Commercial Driver's License or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • 4-5 years experience overseeing and preparing technical specifications for vehicles and equipment in a large public or private agency utilizing a wide variety of light and heavy vehicles and equipment

  • Mechanic experience, Mechanic Certification preferred but not required.

  • Class A Commercial Driver's License

  • ASE Certifications preferred, not required

  • Experience working with solid waste equipment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of solid waste operations

  • Basic mechanical knowledge of solid waste collection vehicles

  • Basic knowledge of DOT safety policies, precautions, rules and regulations

  • Skill operating basic office equipment and software

  • Skill in Microsoft Office (including Excel and Outlook)

  • Ability to coordinate scheduling in a constructive manner

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both in writing and orally

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Class B Texas driver's license

  • Must obtain Class A CDL within six months of hire

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. May be subject to safety and traffic hazards, fumes, chemicals, and/or physical stress from exertion or lifting.
