Status: Full-time, 40-hours per week Schedule: Evening Shift - 3:00pm-11:00pm with rotating weekends Job Summary: MedStar Health is looking for an OfficerI Unarmed to join our teamat MedStar St Mary's Hospital! As an Office I Unarmed, you will ensurea safe environment for our patients, staff,and visitors. Patrols hospital property,responds to calls forassistance, and reports on conditions, objects or persons which mayimpactthe security and/or safety of patients, associates, physicians, visitors, or vendors, and responds according to established policies, procedures,and regulations. Mentors and trains security staff. Assumes charge role as needed. Security Officers are essential associates in a 24/7 environment and maybe requiredto be flexible with scheduling and work "off-shifts." May obtain andmaintainState of Maryland and/or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department Special Police Officer commission to carry out duties associated with crime control and response,designatedas an Unarmed Security Officer, assigned,and deployed within the hospital consistent with the limitations of the Unarmed SPO commission from Maryland State Police or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department. Conductdesignated security patrols throughout the facility as directed. May berequiredto patrol the hospital campus/grounds via security motor vehicle or bicycle. Monitors security and appearance of lobbies, waiting areas, elevators, and entrances. Prepares andsubmitsreports and logs of all incidents, investigations, and activities. Maintains department records, reports, and files asrequired. Proficient in andutilizesnonviolent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure staff, patients, visitors,and all othersremainsafe, calm,and respected while onsite. Aids with wayfinding, parking, deliveries,and other requested information for the hospital and MedStar affiliates. Responds to security and medical code calls. Investigates incidents and accidents. Gathers information and evidence. Notifiesappropriate authoritiesor superiors and calls for back-upassistance,as necessary. Testifies at legal proceedings, hearings,and trials. Collects and secures patient valuables and lost-and-found articles. Monitors camera surveillance and other security technology systems as directed. Responds to circumstances where the exercise of law enforcement authority may berequired. Interacts with visitors andmaintainsdesignated security posts throughout the facility as directed. Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED. 1-2 years related security, corrections,or law enforcement experience. 1-2 years of MedStar experience may be substituted for direct law enforcement experience. Driver's License - Endorsement A (Air Brakes) Valid driver's license. BLS(Basic Life Support). Associate degree preferred. SPO preferred. IAHSS certification preferred. This position has a hiring range of $18.33 - $31.61
