Position Summary
This is a highly responsible professional position providing project management leadership for Integrative Team Initiative programs, Limited Submissions, the Research Training Support Group, the Office for Proposal Enhancement ( OPE), and strategic initiative launch in the Office of Research. This professional also leads the management and operation of UGA's InfoReady system. Using the knowledge and insight into campus needs gained through these efforts, this position will be responsible for establishing a project management and coordination service scalable with demand to serve as a flexible asset supporting UGA's large, externally funded research programs, both pre- and post-award. Work will be performed under the general guidance of the Associate VP for Research and the Director of OPE.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Expert knowledge of project management, either holding Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or committed to earning it.
  • Extensive knowledge of the methods, procedures, and techniques used in grant preparation, coordination, and implementation at an academic institution.

Organize and establish a project management and coordination service designed to scale with demand to ultimately serve as a flexible pre-award and post-award asset for large research programs on campus, based on an ongoing needs assessment for project management informed by the support provided to Integrative Team Initiatives ( ITI) and Office of Proposal Enhancement ( OPE).

Duties/Responsibilities
Lead the project management and coordination for Integrative Team Initiatives and programs addressing team formation and development, team training, and large integrative project planning, management, and launch. Duties include the following:

  1. Lead the management of the Presidential Interdisciplinary Seed Grant Program, including establishing the Letter of Intent (LOI), full proposal submission, and review processes; awards and declinations; and craft regular reporting and synthesize results.
  2. Provide management support and mentoring to the Team Interdisciplinary Research (TIR) Pre-Seed program.
  3. Provide project management and coordination for team training programs as well as contribute organization and management professional expertise to modules delivered in training programs.
  4. Lead project management support and coordination for the Major Integrative Proposal Planning (MIPP) Program, including organization of internal and external teams and completion of pink and red reviews for designated integrative proposals.
  5. Lead project management of the Research Training and Support (RTS) Group, coordinating OoR, Grad School and Office of Inst. Diversity and supervising its staff member(s).
    6. Lead project management for new UGA research initiatives and externally funded major programs through their launch phase, including OoR Strategic Initiative Institutes.
  6. Request and conduct meetings with Deans and Associate Deans, Department Heads, Office Directors, and Center and Institute Directors to coordinate large grant proposal support efforts, both in general and with regard to specific solicitations and specific proposals including those supported through the MIPP program.

Duties/Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive project management for the OPE for large proposal projects working in close coordination with the Proposal Enhancement Officer. Duties include the following:

  1. Independently research existing information about large integrative grant programs, sponsors, agencies, and potential collaborators. Use this information to strategize regarding development of individual proposals.
  2. Create project plans with timelines and checklists for proposal submission and document creation for major grant proposals in coordination with the Proposal Enhancement Officer and ensure faculty team adherence.
  3. Create meeting agendas. Lead and facilitate meetings of between 5-20 faculty member(s), depending on size of proposal.
  4. Work with PI to develop and implement proposal strategy; lead the proposal team in accordance with this strategy throughout the proposal development process to ensure cohesiveness of proposal vision and competitiveness of proposal.

Lead the management and operation of UGA's Limited Submission process working in close coordination with ITI, SPA, and OPE. Duties include the following:

  1. Manage the overall Limited Submission process, interfacing with units across campus as required.
  2. Identify opportunities for research development based on ITI and OPE faculty team capability experience.
  3. Supervise the OPE staff in their assignment to populate limited submission data.
  4. Serve as campus superuser, unit point of contact for UGA microsites, and vendor point of contact for UGA's InfoReady system.
