Position description

The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is recruiting an orthopaedic surgeon with pediatric orthopedic surgery subspecialty and basic or translational research expertise who has and/or will be completing a pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship.

The clinical practice will provide diagnostic, interventional, and surgical management for patients with a variety of diagnoses, with a focus on general pediatric orthopedic surgery and pediatric orthopedic trauma. The applicant will be based at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals in San Francisco and Oakland as well as various sites in the Bay Area where pediatric orthopedic conditions are treated. The selected individuals will also be responsible for and provide an integral role to teach clinically relevant topics for residents as well as medical students and fellows. Both didactic and bedside teaching is required, and participation in medical student, resident, and fellow education is highly encouraged.

Surgeon scientists working in all areas of basic and translational science are welcome to apply. A successful candidate is expected to contribute a focus relevant to orthopaedic research, along with a desire to bridge areas of expertise across disciplines at UCSF such as stem cell and developmental biology; bioengineering; metabolism and metabolic disease; clinical research; or immunology. Candidates will be evaluated on their potential to pursue a research program that is competitive for extramural federal funding, including those that support transition to independence (i.e. NIH K award).

  • MD from an accredited program.
  • Completion of an accredited Orthopaedic Residency program.
  • Completion of an accredited Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery Fellowship.
