Overview The Associate Director, Security will be responsible for managing and leading an effective global strategy and security program for the protection, safeguarding and security of employees, integrity, reputation, and physical assets of Alnylam. A successful candidate will design, implement, and monitor global security policies and programs to align with Alnylam objectives and address all aspects of security for the company's global business including protection of intellectual property, physical security, investigations, information security (in partnership with Information Technology), security education, event planning, emergency preparedness, crisis management, supply chain security practices and executive protection. This position is onsite and will be primarily located at Cambridge, MA. Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic direction of the global security program, provide leadership and mentorship for all security activities within the company. Routinely engage senior management for feedback and input to ensure the program is consistent and aligned with the growth and direction of the company.
- Develop policies, objectives, plans, procedures, and investment plan for the global security program. Conducts audits and evaluate work standards and performance levels ensuring uniformity, effectiveness and incorporating continuous improvement to attain best in class programs and operations.
- Maintain a company-wide security measurement system that evaluates the effectiveness of each element of the company's security program and benchmarking against industry best practices of global security programs.
- Site Security and Safeguarding of Assets: Manage physical site security plans and operations to ensure protection of employees, vendors, visitors, assets, and infrastructure. Execute an effective strategy to mitigate risk, maintain continuity of operations and safeguard the organization. Protection responsibilities include workplace violence prevention, product counterfeiting/diversion, situational intelligence, access control systems, video surveillance, and emergency protocols (ie. disaster recovery, employee safety, etc.).
- Contribute to the development of a corporate-wide business continuity program that includes crisis management, emergency response, resource management, communication, business impact analysis and administration and exercise of the program.
- Coordinate expertise area efforts with Legal, Human Resources, Investor Relations and Corporate Communications, Ethics & Compliance, Risk Management, Finance, Commercial, Information Technology, Facilities, Real Estate and Environmental Health & Safety to provide thorough analysis of security risks and development of appropriate mitigating strategies.
- Executive, Talent, and Special Protection: Assess on an ongoing basis potential threats to executives, talent, or other employees or third parties, especially those who attend public events or travel to high-risk areas or countries. Advise and provide proactive guidance (and work with external partners) to minimize and guard against impactful threats.
- Develop training programs and conduct exercises to ensure organizational preparedness for global, regional or local disastrous incidents and to raise employee understanding and awareness.
- Drive strategic technology landscape, current enterprise solutions with business integration/support, and maintain an active role and participation in emerging and innovative technology.
- Develop and maintain close and professional relationships with high-level national and international law enforcement, investigative, emergency response, and other government agencies, as well as private sector counterparts, and stay informed of and compliant with all applicable laws and regulations and be knowledgeable of current trends in the security industry. Foster partnership in communication of information and assistance as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of experience and education in Security Administration or Management, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice, Law, or equivalent field, a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Physical Security Professional (PSP) certifications desired and advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 12 years of relevant experience with increasing responsibility in a private sector multi-national corporate security organization or related public sector experience. Preferred candidate will have minimum of 4 years of demonstrated leadership experience.
- Substantial knowledge of principles, theories, concepts, and industry best practices applicable to compliance, BCP and/or security programs.
- International and domestic travel estimated to be 10%
