Overview:

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals is seeking a part-time Director of Alliance & Strategic Finance Optimization, who will serve as a strategic, enterprise-minded finance leader within the Alliance & Business Development (BD) Finance team. The Director will play a critical role in enabling effective decision-making for existing collaborations, strengthening financial processes, and fostering seamless collaboration across Finance, Business Development, and Alliance Management.

Responsibilities:

Enterprise & Operational Finance Leadership:

  • Drive special projects and develop actionable recommendations for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) with clear, data-driven insights that support strategic and operational decisions
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to align financial insights with enterprise goals and enhance decision-making across R&D, Technical Operations, and Commercial functions
  • Lead benchmarking and performance analysis projects to evaluate efficiency, productivity, and competitiveness across the business
  • Manage sensitive and high-impact deliverables in partnership with senior Finance and business leaders

Alliances & External Opportunities:

  • Deliver ad hoc financial analyses and assessments for key existing alliances and partnerships, supporting strategic reviews, business cases, and long-range planning
  • Provide oversight and leadership to BD and Alliance FP&A team members supporting business case development for both existing and prospective partnerships
  • Support the financial integration of new partnerships and business opportunities, working closely with Alliance Management and other cross-functional stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Legal, Technical Accounting, Tax, and Treasury to ensure a comprehensive financial perspective across both new and existing external collaborations

Process and Governance:

  • Provide oversight for partnership governance forums and related finance deliverables, including annual budget and forecast processes
  • Contribute to internal financial planning cycles as they relate to existing and new partnerships
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes, systems, and reporting frameworks supporting BD and Alliance Finance activities

Team Enablement & Modeling Excellence:

  • Serve as a flexible resource to support and coach Alliance & BD Finance team members on advanced financial modeling, valuation, and scenario planning
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of tools, templates, and best practices that elevate analytical rigor and consistency across the Finance organization

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or other degrees with quantitative focus (e.g. Statistics, Econometrics, Mathematics) required. MBA and/or other advanced degree is a plus.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience in finance or a related field, preferably with a focus on Alliance / Program Management or Business Development Finance or strategic planning in life sciences.
  • Strong understanding of drug discovery, development, manufacturing, regulatory, and commercialization.
  • Demonstrated success in leading process improvement and change management initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and a proven ability to present complex financial insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of financial models, valuations, and business proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex financial information and assumptions into effective presentations.

Important Knowledge & Skills:

  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritize and remain organized in fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Expertise with Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Intellectually curious and willing to offer insights or challenge assumptions appropriately.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with an ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of the deal team, as well as an individual contributor.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to influence and build relationships at all levels of the organization.

U.S. Pay Range

$178,500.00 - $241,500.00

The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
